Women's 2009/2010 Autumn (Fall)/Winter

The fashion week runways for the Women's 2009/2010 Autumn (Fall)/Winter collections may be something truly different. In the midst of the economic crisis impacting the fashion industry one can expect smaller shows, fewer catwalks, more upcoming talent as opposed to big name models, and a general cut back in all areas.

And so it is that we dive into coverage of the Autumn (Fall)/Winter 2009/2010 catwalks with plenty of pictures from the runways of New York, Milan, Paris and London.

overlay
Black lace inserts, a boned bodice and champagne-coloured chiffon for these lovely dresses, one long and one short. The short one has got a ruffled skirt decorated by horsehair.

obibow
Elaborate obi-like belts for these outfits. The first is a dress with bell sleeves, made of hand-painted white silk; the second is made of a short embroidered jacket with a fantastic bow belt, paired to simple shorts. The reference to Japanese culture is clear, since the obi is the traditional sash worn on kimonos and yukatas.
gold
Tulle and gold embroideries are the themes which both dresses have in common. The first seems to come out of a fairy-tale book: the skirt is a cloud of white tulle, while the bodice is decorated by gold embroideries and stiff ruffles. The second is a column dress, all embroidered in gold, with stiff ruffles on the bodice and on one shoulder.
Marchesa-Podium-spring-fashion-2010-006_runway
In Marchesa’s collections short dresses are not common, but the designers always try to include one or two. This one is amazing: I love the pale aqua colour of the chiffon bands and the gold embroideries.
nude
Nude tulle inserts distinguish these dresses. The first has the same colour as the short one: the bodice is made of embroidered lace, while the skirt is ruffled and pleated, so as to resemble sea foam. The second is made of lilac chiffon and is embroidered with a wisteria motif. Wisteria floribunda (the common wisteria) is a Japanese woody flowering branch, so this is another connection to Japanese culture.
glicine
Wisterias are embroidered in white and in lilac on these dresses. One is made of pale lilac silk, is strapless and has a short train, while the other is made of black silk with a tulle overlay, and has a single shoulder topped by a bow.
bows
The traditional Japanese art of paper folding – origami – is surely the primary inspiration behind the white silk decorations on these black dresses.
Marchesa-Podium-spring-fashion-2010-012_runway
This dress is peculiar because it combines a Grecian-like quality (the draped skirt), so Marchesa, to the origami art (the multiple fabric decorations on the shoulder).

Louboutin shoes

Louboutin shoes, but I have to admit this time he has surpassed himself. Most of the shoes have the same theme of the dresses – see the ruffles on the fuchsia sandals, or the embroideries and the flowers on the fuchsia and dove grey satin peep-toe pumps.
booties
When I first saw these booties, my heart stopped. Aren’t they absolutely gorgeous?

.
Maria Bonita Extra, a wonderful collection... I totally fell in love with all the sequined 'numbers' and also with the amazing colours and prints used.
Ps: Can someone please send me all of those items above?!?!?!?!

Cavendish, I really like the dresses in this collection, they are kind of Vivienne Westwood in the way they have been cut on the bias.

Melk Z-Da, the first dress, the grey one, is just something I MUST HAVE! Love the intricate construction of this garments. Loads of volume and sheer, is right up my street.

From 'Rio Moda Hype':

Ursula Felix, Absolutely loved the print on those amazing dresses, I'll definitely be keeping a close eye on her work!

Julia Valle, I felt very inspired for a DIY 'something' after seeing this picture.

Fernanda Yamamoto, I always love loads of volume and the second dress it's all made by glued fabrics like a collage, so inovative and beautiful.

Light Tech

Back to the future

A new beginning showing optimism and progress. Technology becomes playful in a sweet way. A new positive high-tech is restarting with references to the naivity of the 50ies.

Colours
Fresh, acidic tints that evoke chemical elixirs and experimental emulsions. The flashy, slightly pop colours of vitamin-charged smoothies: green, pink, turquoise, yellow and acidic orange. They are accompanied by a second range of more faded and somewhat veiled, grayed tints.

Silhouette
A blend of functional, resolutely modern strictness in 60’s structured shapes. We see clean appeal, sharp-cut lab coats or absolutely simple basics reworked in luxurious, technical fabrics. References to medical bandages and an 80’s sporty mood in fitted pieces are also forthcoming.

Men
A very clean style in fresh colours, this simplicity enables the experimentation with new associations and new manners of wearing garments.

Fabrics
taffeta, coated canvas, cotton, jacquard and thick linen. Textured surfaces with miniature motifs in clean, precise graphics. Elsewhere, a futurist mood is illustrated by synthetic, compact, girdling fabrics with technical finishes. Transparent harmonies and layerings are more refined.

DANDY MANIFESTO

Context

The world of books, writing, manuscripts, calligraphy and coded language. A theme combining the somewhat stuffy elegance of the Oscar Wilde style dandies with a bohemian, more modern, poetic, “artist” spirit. An androgynous silhouette: chic and decadent for a look both outdated yet contemporary.

Colours
A dark, shady range in a variety of inky tones. Touches of color electrify the palette. And to tone it all down: white and taupy or grayed shades.

Beauty
Experimental, audacious make-up borrows from Dadaism, typography and photo-montage.

Two palettes co-exist: the first explores paper, whiteness and material effects, while the second, darker range is inspired by ink, pencil, charcoal and graphite.

Materials
Men’s supple, ultra-fine worsted wools in the spirit of Savile Row tailors
Stripes used with subtlety: discreet banker’s stripes, stippled chalk stripes, tuxedo pants emphasized with a band of tone-on-tone satin. A graphic spirit borrowed from the wide stripes of club ties or men’s satin waistcoats
Fluid fabrics, heavily drapey silks: crêpe, crêpe georgette, chiffon
Delicate lace and embroidered tulles
Jacquards and tapestry-style weaves are inspired by the elaborate covers of old books

Key Women’s’ Products
Redingote-coats. Short 2-in-1 jackets (jacket + waistcoat). Little men’s waistcoats.
Cigarette-legged pants and darted cropped pants.
Striped shirts or with plastrons, shirttails, with scarves and lavallières.
Cardigans. With tailored collars, belted, Jacquard
Oversized jackets
Skintight miniskirts in stretch cotton with rock details: zips, buckles, insets
Lace tops and dresses.

Key Men’s Products
Tuxedo spirit, fitted cuts, in a sportswear mood
Short coats in little English checks, basket weaves, tweed. Duffle-coats
Historical military coats: engraved ball buttons and double-breasted
Prints: checks and flowers for hunting jackets, waistcoats and tapered pants.
Riding jackets, short, buttoned and fitted.

Accessories
Women: lambskin gloves. Textile shoes, decorated pumps, with patent or gimped and perforated toes. Material mixes for bags: skins, crocodile, and natural leather
Men: caps inspired by riding hats. Tartan ties. Military and riding boots. Checked Borsalinos.

Milan fashion week: Fashion reacts to economic crisis?

The most famous Italian fashion houses took part in this fashion event, showing their creations and conveying the image of a refined, self-reliant woman, who loves luxury, with a strong personality and intriguing sensuality.
milan-fashion-week-2009-2010Milan fashion week was eagerly anticipated by fashion journalists, media and critics because they were all curious to know what Italian designers would be able to achieve. How would they represent the idea of Italian fashion and style in such a difficult period as this, with the fierce economic recession affecting the entire world?
Looking at this fashion week, it is not difficult to realize that the economic crisis really exists and that it is negatively impacting the fashion world too, which in everybody’s imagination is the symbol of perfect beauty, the expression of a woman’s dream. Italian fashion houses, just like most Italians, are suffering because of this recession: people are less likely to buy luxury clothes or accessories anymore and the fashion sector is at a standstill which provokes an incredible loss of money, very few profits and the inevitable decision to make some budget cuts in the creation of a luxury fashion collection.
This year, more than 10 famous brands decided not to take part in Milan fashion week because of the impossibility of preparing an appropriate collection which would enhance the brand and their popularity. The Florentine designer Roberto Cavalli just presented his own collection, and had to  give up presenting the JUST CAVALLI line, because the company ITTIERRE with whom he collaborates in the creation of this line, is facing some economic problems and was no longer able to guarantee him a collection that would live up to the brand image and its popularity around the world. Other designers that took part in this Italian event were criticized for putting together poor and unexciting collections.
However, although some designers tried to confront the economic crisis by proposing very sober styles, classic essential lines without any complementary accessories such as necklaces or hats, to make their creations more affordable in price and accessible to a larger group of customers, there have been many other famous fashion houses that, at this difficult time of recession, focused all their energies on creating a very high quality product, a gorgeous luxury item of perfect Italian manufacture, distinguished for its elegance and refinement, for its perfect stitching for the selection of prestigious fabrics and leathers used for its manufacture. Sophisticated silks, gorgeous velvets with damask decoration, wool and cashmere, have made these creations  genuine masterpieces of glamour and sensual elegance.
Particular attention was also paid by this second group of designers to accessories such as shoes, gloves and luxury handbags because, in their opinion, these are very important elements to complete the woman’s look, affirming her dynamism and sensuality. Shoes and boots should have vertiginous heels and wedges to enhance the woman’s legs, which are encased in matt black nylons for the day and very sensual black micromesh nylons at night.
Luxury handbags for daywear are wide and comfortable, almost all made of genuine leather, though some designers  preferred using gorgeous exotic leathers such as crocodile both for some dresses from their autumn-winter collection and for the bags to match. Evening bags can be summed up in a single word: clutches. They are the in handbag to wear to a glamorous party or a special evening event, according to what was shown by most Italian fashion houses at Milan fashion week. The clutch, as an eternally sophisticated style of bag, will dominate the fashionable evening scene next autumn-winter 2009/2010, as the uncontested essential of an elegant woman’s style. Made of genuine leather or of lustrous fabric, soft or structured, clutches are everywhere, always clasped in the hand, matching the dress in color and style. Where  possible, clutches are also worn by the woman across the body, thanks to the refined long gold or silver chain strap. Gloves are really gorgeous, made of leather or fabric, black or colored to match the dress, short or elbow length, shiny or matt.
milan-fashion-week-handbagsAnalyzing the new proposals presented at Milan Fashion week in more detail, we can confidently say that, as regards style, there is a return to the past. We’re revisiting the 70’s and 80’s with high waisted trousers or skirts, leather coats and stretch leather trousers, maxi shirts and cropped jackets defining the waist line worn with wide trousers.
We can find a touch of the 80’s also in some of the fashionable fabrics characterizing these autumn-winter women’s collections: there is a return to shimmering silks and lamè fabrics for the evening look, perfect for enhancing a woman’s elegance and natural luminosity, especially if she wears a sober long dress. Fabrics are covered by rhinestones and sequins, which shine in the light and bring to mind the glamorous sparkling dresses worn by movie stars or famous international singers of the 80’s at the Oscars or other important celebrations. Thirty years on, fashion repeats itself but doesn’t lose any of its glamorous beauty. A woman dressed in an elegant long dress, enriched by decorative rhinestones and pearls is always gorgeous, just as much today as yesterday, because elegance is timeless.
The most fashionable colors, recurring in almost all the collections presented, are classic tones such as white, light beige, grey and black (this color is especially recommended for a chic evening look combined with gold or silver necklaces or colored accessories), alongside brighter colors such as fuchsia, purple, emerald green, turquoise, yellow, orange, acid green and light pink.
Gold and silver are a recurrent theme, used as a contrast to black or for accessories such as bags, shoes and jewelry.
Taking a look at these colors, we can’t help making a brief observation:  most of these colors are typical fresh summer colors, vivid shades which usually brighten up our summer evenings but here, as we can see, they have been used by Italian fashion houses to create the trendy look of next winter!!!!
Have they perhaps used these positive, sunshine shades to exorcize their fear of difficult, dark times brought on by the financial crisis? It could be possible!!!!
Do you want to read in more detail about the women’s fashion collections presented by Italian designers for next autumn-winter season 2009-2010? Don’t miss our next article, to be posted on the Gleni blog in a few days!!!!

Fashion hairstyle 2010

fashion 2010

Queen of the ice

This spectacular hairstyle main asset is its volume. A large wick becomes a ribbon running through his head side to side, rolling her fantastically, as if a tornado is involved. Its finish fades a bit at the end, to lighten a little the whole. This setting gives the feeling of wearing a hat, so it is an accessory in itself.

Who? For angular and square faces. But do the test before, as they must have picked up weight … Makeup and jewelry are gorgeous.

What dress? With one sophisticated than tightly around his body, to avoid the effect of “longitudinal” to lengthen the silhouette

Party dresses 2010 | Spring Summer Devota & Lomba

Devotee’s collection for spring summer & Lomba Cibeles seen in 2010 has been characterized mainly for its incursion into a constant geometry, based on hexagons and shapes with a slightly oriental style.
The leit moptiv of the collection, is based on origami, which was mainly in the tails of party dresses in skirts and tops of evening dresses.

In the shorter skirts, the flight with power hidden under the silk tulle., was perfect. Overlap fabric color schemes among, which predominate apple green, red, black and camel.
